Prism

I tend to make art inspired by life experiences, adventures, and everyday objects. In my series, Prism, I explore identity through color. I am choosing to display my photographs in a series of diptychs; one with full color and one with limited color. The purpose of hiding the model’s face in the isolated color images is to make the viewer really take a second to think about identity and what it means to them. But their identity can be taken away with such ease, and a simple shift of perspective, and then all the attention transfers to the object. Sometimes it’s scary how our outlook on certain things can be changed so quickly by the tiniest of actions. I chose to represent this through color because I feel like people don’t usually associate color with identity and I felt like it was a fresh way to approach the topic of identity.
